The Correlation Between Neighborhoods And Neighborhood...

Living in a very poor neighborhood can cause many bad instances. In a sense, people are not living in the poor neighborhood willingly. They don’t have more capability to afford rents and taxes in a better neighborhood. These poor people are restricted to the dark side due to their below average employment, and other financial reasons. Other factor is that each race and ethnicity can put a different outcome in the same scenario. The lifestyle in different ethnicity differs. In some countries, neighborhood does not influence people, while in some other culture neighborhood affect a personality/behavior very much. In order to find out the correlation between neighborhoods they live in, and the average person of an individual scientists from different fields conducted a study. In the paper Children and Youth in Neighborhood Contexts, Tama Leventhal and Jeanne Brooks-Gunn talks about an experiment where the desegregate people under public housing. They gave vouchers for rents to live in different neighborhood. Some people were shifted to poorer neighborhood, and some were moved to better neighborhood. The scientists were interested in the performance of the youth. They found out that, a youth which moved to a better neighborhood did better on academics, and cognitive abilities compared to a youth that moved to poorer neighborhood. The article also mentioned that, youth which moved into poor neighborhood had some physical and mental issues too. The outcomes from different

Societal Interpretations of Buddhism and Gender...

Societal Interpretations of Buddhism and Gender Inequality The doctrine and basic values of Buddhism are based centrally in equality and provide equal opportunity for both genders, and indeed all sentient beings, to attain enlightenment and the realization of the true Buddha within. However, an interesting discrepancy within the Buddhist traditions occurs in the societal interpretations of Buddhism and the resulting rules and regulations that can show less than equal treatment and valuation of female members. As a religion that gives strong support of logically and empirically constructed morals, it is worthwhile to note that many of the societal views of women show a portrayal of the female that has not caught up with†¦show more content†¦The Buddha himself said that women were totally, indisputably capable of enlightenment.† (325) The inherent meaninglessness of gender has been stated by the Buddha himself, and this should serve as a warning about the danger of falling into a trap of the ego. Discovering the inner harmony an d equality between all beings is a goal that can easily be waylaid when too much importance is placed on the separate qualifications or strengths of the different genders. â€Å"Ego, as we have seen, is any stage of habitual patterns and responses that clouds over the clarity and openness of basic human nature.† (Gross 162, Buddhism after Patriarchy) Separating practitioners by gender status can lead to this same type of ego duality. The separation of male and female is a pattern repeated by society and if it enters the realm of the spiritual, as in this case, it is yet another disillusion. The loss of the ego is intricately tied up in the renunciation of gender roles within Buddhism. Every Buddhist practitioner, regardless of sex, should be on an initially even playing field, according to the tenants of the Buddha. Some central Buddhist beliefs, such as karma, have been used to justify the inequality of women’s status. Math Every Day Free Essays

It occurs to me that learning mathematics, especially calculus and other forms of higher mathematics, is much like learning a foreign language. Math starts out like a foreign language, having its own symbols, definitions, applications, and structures. It is difficult to use at first and requires repetition, like a new language. We will write a custom essay sample on Math Every Day or any similar topic only for you Order Now One needs to memorize symbols, their functions and many rules, and then one needs to practice by working many problems. Learners cannot be comfortable with new languages (mathematics) until they can use it repeatedly, consistently, and successfully. Calculus, or a new language, is already existent and the learner needs to adapt to it and work in it; the new material will not adapt to the learner. One learns a language by listening to others and by reading, using a dictionary, learning the language rules, and what breaks any or all of those rules. Calculus is similar. After much practice, students can communicate with others in their new language and expand their abilities with more practice and use, just as in mathematics. Those with a good foundation via formal instruction are clearly better at than those that pick it up here and there, intermittently.   The first can be understood and the second become lost. Less well-trained learners are limited in the range and layering of meaning their communication can involve and do not have the tools for even higher levels of language (mathematics) learning. A strong foundation prepares the new language speaker or the new calculus student for the next step in their subject’s discipline and for later innovation, research, and invention in that discipline. Mathematics and language are the same — They have formulas and patterns; they are communication and they are beautiful (e.g. fractal patterns and poetry). Perhaps this is the reason that the films â€Å"Close encounters of the third kind† used music (very mathematical) and â€Å"Contact† used mathematics as the forms of communication that proved successful between aliens and earth people. Media Discourse Analysis

Question: Discuss about theMedia Discourse Analysis. Answer: Introduction The concept of discourse is comparatively old but has gained importance in the early 1970s especially in media. The discourse is seen as an effective piece of discussion especially in the field of Mass communication and Journalism and hence it could be said that discourse is one of the effective tools which are used by the journalists to provide the viewers or the readers with the ample information regarding a particular subject. It is extremely important to mention that Nowadays the essentiality of discourse has increased due to the emergence of new media. People in the contemporary world are highly concerned about different political social aspects and discourse is a great avenue to avail in order to inform people about different political and social changes as well as key movements made (Fairclough, 2013). Discourse is a multifaceted subject and has been considered in different ways by different scholars and researchers and hence it is extremely important to mention that the tool of discourse could be used in different ways. The concept of discourse has become increasingly important since most of the authors, especially journalists and researchers have taken to discourse in order to discuss about key subjects in the recent past. With the induction of internet discourse has found its true meaning and identity since an influx has been seen where more people have become interested in Internet reading rather than using the normal newspapers. Overall it could be said that the development of the discourse platform has been rapid in the last few years with the emergence of internet (Hyland, 2011). There are number of definitions of discourse which have come into action with different people using discourse using different ways. The classical definition of discourse is given as the way in which a discussion or debate is framed in a short and precise form. It is also said that the discourse analysis is the study of the use of the language in texts and contexts. So, it could be understood that discourse analysis is effective in specific situational analysis that relates to political, social and other fields. It basically is able to assess a conversation which goes within a speaker and a listener which deciphers a particular subject. The discourse analysis basically helps to develop an effective relationship between the key variables of research as well as developing a strong platform which will help to form an effective discourse analysis successfully. The present study will be a discourse analysis in nature based on a very important issue (Coulthard Coulthard, 2014). With the time passing by we have seen that the cases of sexual harassment over females have increased and it has broken all the barriers of religion, race caste and creed. It could be said that in every corner of the world sexual atrocities on females have increased rapidly. There have been number of researches on this subject and hence it could be said that discourse analysis on this will be much more effective developing a strong platform to gain effective insights on this study (Rogers, 2011). With the world undergoing globalisation more and more females have come into the picture and have played crucial role in different sphere of life. In this situation there have been key developments made in the field of sports and athletics where females have had significant success. Hence it is important that females are provided all kinds of support in their errand to the pinnacle of success. It could be said that even though there have been significant developments made in the field of sports female harassment has also been a common problem which could not be eliminated or mitigated (Fasting et al., 2011). A similar event has taken place which has come under spotlight in the recent past which has happened in Singapore Sports just before the country was preparing for dispatching its team to the Rio Olympics 2016. This has already stirred huge amount of interest in the world politics especially in sports politics. Since sports is one field where discrimination has been strongly conde mned and there have been number of laws which also underpin this effective thought and movement it has become extremely important that sexual harassment among female athletes are mitigated effectively (The New Paper, 2016). It is important to mention that the incident in the Singapore has again pointed out that there are certain key aspects which are extremely important to be taken under consideration. The sexual harassment of female athletes in Singapore is not new and since history repeats itself similarly these incidents have showed that even though there have been slogans of equality but female respect still stands to be slaughtered. Over the years there have been number of researches on this subject and hence it could be said that this case of female sexual harassment is seen and is pledged to be handled in a stern manner so that better mitigation strategies could be planned and implemented. Hence the present discourse analysis will be done on the very recent article of about the sexual harassment of female athletes in Singapore (TODAYonline, 2016). It could be said that the discourse analysis will take into account the key discussions regarding the sexual harassment case which would help the study to develop a strong platform to discuss and debate on the subject and highlight the essential information regarding the case (Fasting and Brackenridge, 2009). This discourse will also take into account a proper analysis which will help to delve deep into the study and address the objective of the study successfully. Since the discourse studies are increasing in number as well as it has helped a lot of people to gain interest in news and has also developed the platform for capturing the news market as well. Overall it could be said that the media discourse has become a common tool for the media persons as well as the journalists and hence the present study is likely to be effective in understanding the impact of discourse analysis on a particular subject. The present article on sexual harassment of female athletes have been taken from the online source and also discussed with the help of academic resources (Stirling Kerr, 2009). Discourse Analysis Sexual harassment and improper conduct is not something new in Singapore Athletics but a recent case has created huge turmoil in the country. Harassment of the female athletes in Singapore is not something new and even previously the country has suffered the similar taint and hence the Singapore Athletics have become highly considerate about the present case. The sport body of the country has pledged to move meticulously in order to probe effectively on the present case. It is extremely important to mention that when female athletes of the other countries have been provided with ample resources in order to develop the skills sets then countries like Singapore have not been able to provide its female athletes with the required amount of security. The news spread very fast like fire and hence it was important for the Singapore Athletics Association to handle the case effectively in order to stop spreading of any new controversies. Earlier in 2010 there was a similar case of sexual hara ssment against one of the female athletes which has re-emerged as fuel is added to the fire. The Veteran Coach and the Vice President of the Singapore Athletics Mr. Loh Chan Pew has been accused of harassing a national athlete way back in 2010 which has created problems for the VP and in retaliation he has only taken a leave from his duties clearly running away from the controversy (TODAYonline, 2016). It is extremely important to mention that the accusations brought against him by a former national athlete has had impetus on the recent case where three national athletes have been subjected to improper conduct by their coach in the gym while they were practicing with weight. This has increased the controversy more and more showing the vulnerability of the female athletes and questions the safety issues as well. Ahead of the 2016 Olympics organised in Rio de Janeiro this comes as a huge political as well as a social blow for the nation. There are some of the key questions which need to be answered. What were the safety as well as the security taken up for the athletes especially the female athletes, and why even in these situations in the 21century people have not been able to grow up and why cant females be seen as the prospect who can make their country proud (Fasting et al., 2010). In order to brief the incident the some of the key information has been revealed. It is said that t he 3 athletes were practicing in the gym and their coach has been accused of touching them in an improper manner which is morally not right and has been looked as sexually illegal (TODAYonline, 2016). As the complaints are lodged information say that it has been happening over two months on these three different female athletes have been revealed. The athletes showed promise and lodged a complaint which in Singapore Athletics and this helped the sole sports authority of the country to show cause as well as terminate the service of the coach in order to play it fair with the athletes (TODAYonline, 2016). It is important to understand that even in the professional world especially in sports where players and coaches have to come across different people in terms of gender why cant one resist his or her sexual feelings and in the national level this kind of act coming from a coach or a teaching staffs stands to be criticised and asks for trouble. Hence it could be said that even though there are different laws and rules implemented in the system it is the human mind that has to change in order to change the entire system effectively (Marks et al., 2012). Molestations and improper conduct has been a prevalent problem for females and it has even reached the level in sports which stands to be a matter of concern and hence it is extremely important for the Singapore Athletics to address this situation meticulously in order to send a strong message to the world that the law and justice system in the country respects and gives verdicts equally to all men and women. The outgoing Athletics Chief has tagged the incident as shameful and has promised to consider the case very seriously in order to provide all kinds of support to the athletes especially the female ones so that they feel safe and can concentrate on doing their work (TODAYonline, 2016). The case has been given more importance since this has happened when the country was preparing to send their best possible team to the Rio Olympics 2016 which has started a few days back. In this case a lot of intellectuals right from the government level staffs as well as legal advisors working fo r the sports body of the country has invested their precious time in order to get the best possible result from the probe and this has led to scrutinising all the key aspects and clues based on the witnesses ad statements provided by the victims as well as the accused (Fasting et al., 2010). There have been several rounds of interrogation which has helped the legal advisors to work on the different clues which have been found out through the inquiries. This has also helped the advisors to come to a conclusion that the conduct from the side of the coach which the athletes were highly reliable on as their friend and guide have affected them mentally for which further probe will be done in order to get to the root of the incident and if they come out successful it wont take much time to guess that the coach will be legally punished as well as his coaching license will cease to operate which means he wouldnt be able to professionally coach any individual or team in the world (The New Paper, 2016). Since there has been a police report over it the general police of Singapore have come into the picture which means after the internal inquiry done by the legal advisors and security body of the Singapore Athletics it is the time for the general police of the country to take over t his matter (Fasting et al., 2010). Since the sports body of the country needs to follow protocols it is just a matter of time to know the truth and the verdict against the accused. Since it has happened way back in 2010 and there was an internal probe now the Sports Body of the country says that they have to bring the matter up to the police which will bring further trouble to the accused as well as the victims since the three complainants were reluctant to bring the case to the notice of the police of Singapore. It could be said that this incident is likely to have an effect on the battle of leadership which is coming up in the form of election for the power of the sports authority of Singapore. The outgoing chief Tang Weng Fei has denied all rumors about going in for the position again and is likely to leave the position to a new candidate which is extremely important. Since he is not going to re-elect himself it is important to mention that this case of molestations will be looked after more effectively and assiduo usly in order to send a strong message to the opposition before the elections (The New Paper, 2016). Hence it could be said that the overall case is probably going to b a game changer in the environment of Singapore Athletics as well as for the athletes. Overall it is important to provide the athletes the best resources and opportunities to show their potential but it is much more important to provide them with much needed safety and security especially to the female athletes which will not only inspire them but will also help them to develop the urge to do something in the global arena of athletics (Stirling kerr, 2009). Conclusion Female molestation has been one of the key aspects in the world politics and hence it could be said that even though there have been number of implementations still sexual harassment on females couldnt be properly mitigated and hence it is important that every country comes ahead to support this cause. It is extremely important to mention that in the present case of discourse a string argument has been presented in favor of the implementations which could be done in order to develop a strong platform for the female athletes to prove their potential as well as their mettle in sports. Since Singapore has faced this problem it is extremely important that the probe can find out effective insights which would help the Sports Association in order to effectively fix up the case and come out clean (Fasting et al., 2011). Hence it could be said that the present discourse analysis will help to develop the platform for the case effectively. What role should business and government play in advancing the sustainability

What role should business and government play in advancing the sustainability Introduction Recent trends in the business world have raised concerns as to whether businesses and countries will be able to successfully have resources to sustain production in the future. Issues of environmental pollution and depletion of resources have led governments, leading industrial companies and even regulatory bodies together with other organizations like the United Nations to raise their concerns as to whether the world will run out of resources soon (Olson 1999).Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on What role should business and government play in advancing the sustainability? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Current trends that have brought about changes in global climate patterns in the world have led countries to reconsider their stand and commitment towards sustaining the environment (Brown 2002). Corporate entities together with governments and individuals are all responsible for taking care of the enviro nment and have embarked on strategies that will preserve water bodies, the soil air, vegetation, and animals which have all become casualties because of the various commercial human activities taking place in the world (Natural Resources Defense Council 2005). Although many corporate bodies have time and again been blamed for using unorthodox operation techniques that have led to the detriment of the environment, governments around the world have been forced to intervene and to lead from the front by discouraging pollution and abuse of the environment by employing environment management that will force business to come up with sustainable business activities (Bullard 2007). It has thus become imperative that businesses embark on efforts that will ensure that they replenish the stock of natural resources under their jurisdiction as they continue to grow and produce finished products. The concerns of Sustainability have turned out to be a very central part of business for numerous fir ms that are global businesses because firms have realized if they behave irresponsibly, there may be no future resources for them to engage in production and this will lead to the death of economies and many corporate entities. Corporate leaders are incorporating sustainable business strategies into the complete cycle of the processes of the entire business processes especially when sourcing raw materials, manufacturing and even disposal after use by their loyal consumers.Advertising Looking for essay on environmental studies? The triple bottom line in this case has changed the historical business orientation that forced businessmen to dwell only on issues of profitability and making money now entrepreneurs and corporate entities must also aim to improve the environment and also the society as they take care of shareholder interests (Gifford 2006). The government has thus put in place necessary mechanisms and procedures that aim to ensure that businesses in the long run become a part of Sustainability efforts this is because government efforts alone will be futile without incorporating efforts of the largest stakeholders which are businesses (Mira d’Ercole Salvini 2003). Essay Question What role should business and government play in advancing the sustainability debate especially knowing that there can be no future for business and industrial growth if issues of sustainability are put on hold or ignored in the present? Main Body Natural resources are a very important factor of production and the process of manufacturing products are responsible for adding and creating value, with this in mind the key role of the government in SD is to use command and control regulation tools in order to ensure businesses are responsible and adhere to the SD standards. Bodies like United Nations through United Nations Environmental Programme, World Bank, IMF, other bodies such as Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD), the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources are able to set international standards and give policy suggestions/guidelines which are considered very important in SD.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on What role should business and government play in advancing the sustainability? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Th ese Standards serve as key to setting performance standards and government policies in various places within the world. Governments are responsible for overseeing the entire SD process within their countries and region by fostering policy integration, setting the necessary timeframe, analyzing and assessing the actual situation, ensuring that all stakeholders play their part by participating appropriately, setting the indicators and targets and finally monitoring and evaluating performance. In the United States of America, the government has set up numerous agencies to take care of the countries SD concerns the Environmental Protection Agency is one such agency that takes care of Environmental and Social concerns of the triple bottom line. The EPA ensures that businesses and corporate giants implement sustainable development strategies that will not only conserve the environment but also guarantee future availability of resources. A good example of the EPA swinging into action is wh en General Motors was found to have violated environmental quality standards by releasing excessive wastes into the Hudson River (CorpWatch 2010). The river is a source of livelihood and part of the society and ecological system and it is thus the duty of the organization to come up with appropriate waste disposal techniques that do not violate and endanger those who depend on it and this is why the agency intervened. It is thus clear that the government is responsible for overseeing integration and implementation of SD policies (Epstein 2008). The Japanese government for example has developed an eco fund together with the largest Japanese companies such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Honda and many more, this way; the government can easily work together and partner up as far as sustainable development is concerned. Additionally, the country has been able to launch a number of SD initiatives including the famous Green charter which was formed back in 1999; with the help of the governmen t the Charter has brought together many major stakeholders on sustainable development in Japan and make Sustainable development efforts more successful (Friedman 2003; Brown 2002)Advertising Looking for essay on environmental studies? In Japan for example, companies operate within a corporate responsibility charter, Japanese companies have understood and accepted that all elements of the triple bottom line are important therefore, they apply a lot of effort ensure social and environmental aspects of business are well taken care of. Mitsubishi is one of Japans largest companies with operations in over 90 countries and over 500 companies under its group (Desjardins 2007). The company is among the leading in SD efforts and has put in place Conservation of ecosystems and wildlife programs that will ensure that living organisms are protected and that their business activities do not harm fauna and f lora (Fitzmaurice 2009). The company also funds education and research in ecology and conservation in numerous parts of the world advocating for SD. Moreover the company is funding numerous scientists to research in the field of Global warming and alternative energy sources so that the pollution levels can be cut down around the globe (Cherp, George Kirkpatrick 2004). Xerox is a company that has become a sustainable company due to the fact that they use a technique known as greening the supply chain, this technique allows the company to manufacture more friendly and efficient products such as printers and copiers which are made of 100% recyclable materials additionally the company uses upstream and downstream supply chain movement to recall old parts of their machines and replace them for their clients with newer more biodegradable parts and inks (Hiles 2010). This practice has enabled the company be able to lessen the demand of fresh raw materials directly from nature, this move i s a clear move indicating environmental and societal concern that Xerox has put in place in their CSR charter (Goldstein 2009). Conclusion It is both the duty of the government and businesses to ensure that the efforts of sustainable development succeed and that future generations are able to exist in the presence of enough natural resources and a healthier society. The outcomes of decisions made by businesses and the strategies they employ are being examined more closely than they were in the past with the aim of ensuring that sustainable business becomes a reality and that the future of next generations are well secured. The government should thus be in the forefront in setting strategies and policies and also coming up with realistic timelines, and offer the proper control and supervise businesses to make sure that SD is a key part of business.
